Time Flies

The leaves are turning beautiful colors and wedding is now 19 days away. I've been inspired by the colors around me in my preparations for our wedding event. For some reason everything seems brighter and richer this year.

Our wedding will be a non-traditional event. Plan to see us greeting guests when you enter the party...we have no interest in hiding while everyone is having a good time! We are reorganizing the ceremony from top to bottom which should prove to be interesting. The event is cocktail party style, with nibblies and cake. Plan to have fun and mingle, and definitley wear your dancing shoes!

And then the rain fell...

On August 20th I had quite the shock when a supposed dinner with my dad and Jack turned into a wedding shower with all of my female relatives. It was a little weird when my dad booked me for dinner a week in advance, showed up on time the day of, and casually suggested we stroll into a lovely restaurant in Winnipeg's french quarter, but I didn't expect anything. We were led upstairs to a table and when I came around the corner 25 friendly faces and a mound of gifts were waiting for me. It was overwhelming and I felt very honored. We all had a lovely 3 course dinner and I received some very lovely gifts. Well, WE received some very lovely gifts...but Jack had long skedaddled with dad to a pub.

Thanks to mom and dad for planning, all the lovely ladies for attending and Jack's amazing secret keeping abilities.

aren't we lucky :)

The Party was a Success!

Our party at the Press Club was a lot of fun and a great success! Having lots of special people in one room together made it a little like a practice wedding. I highly recommend having such a party. You learn a lot about wedding preparations and have another excuse to celebrate. So without further ado, here are some photos.

4 sleeps 'til the party!

Hey, hope you are all super pumped about joining us this Friday evening at the Press Club (331 Smith, Downtown Winnipeg). We are getting things together and it turns out we have some awesome prizes to be won...including a candy basket, a DVD player, a camera, an iPod nano and a vacuum cleaner! Also, there will be some fab food from India Palace along with some traditional faspa-type things.

An Engagement Social

Manitoba has a unique tradition where couples hold a party to raise funds for the wedding. We figured...why the heck not!? It should be fun and we hope to see lots of friends.

Hope you can come out and have a good time. We'll have some dj's and possible a couple of big draws. I keep hearing that people love draws. We are not running the bar though, so please don't consider getting drunk a donation to us...you'll have to get drunk just for yourself that night. :)

The response to our last name poll has been fantastic. According to you all - VonRach is the way to go! It should be said that there is a rumor that Vogt comes from VonVogt...hence the VonRach.

Lisa has ordered a dress and was surprised by how fun it was. Well fun for the most part...Some bridal salons keep their dresses in plastic wrapping and then the sales lady will randomly pull out dresses and say "this is so you!" A very odd comment considering she only met you two minutes prior and the poor dress is in a plastic straitjacket. THE dress was ordered from Stella's - a really awesome shop where Lisa even met the man who designed her dress!

As for Jack, he is fantasising about Prada suits. He gets really upset when people ask him if he needs a place to rent a tux. He is also working on getting an engagement social underway. This event will be a mix between an engagement party and a Manitoba social. For those out-of-provincers, Manitoba couples often host a party at a hall where they charge admission, sell booze and have a ton of draws. And there's dancing. We decided to take the best of both parties and host an event to have fun and dance AND make a little cash from door sales. There may be a few big ticket draws as well. The date will hopefully be August 10 or 11, we'll keep you posted!

Who knew that booking a venue could be so difficult? Jack and I are planning a non-traditional type event and needed a non-traditional venue. We traipsed around Winnipeg's exchange district scouring for loft space, visiting pub banquet rooms, peering into the windows of closed down restaurants, begging for theatre lobbies and ending up in the office of a supposed mafia member. Nothing was suitable and/or possible. In the end, we decided that the Winnipeg Art Gallery would be a good 70's modern venue and they have some experience in hosting weddings on site. The date we have set is October 19. Hooray!

In late May of 2004, Jack Rach and Lisa Vogt decided to give togetherness a go. Three years later they decided to become husband and wife.
